Perry Mason was a longest running lawyer series in American TV history. It was premiered on 21st of September 1957 with its pilot episode and finished its final episode on 4th of September 1966. The total series was divided into 12 seasons with 271 episodes in total.
Main characters were Perry Mason the defense attorney whose character was played by Raymond Burr, his secretary Della Street and a private detective named as Paul Drake, there roles were played by Barbara Hale and William Hopper. Paul serves as the only friend of Mason in the whole series. Mason seems to have some romantic interest in his faithful and beautiful secretary. The role of unfortunate Los Angeles District Attorney, named as Hamilton Burger who never seems to win was played by William Tallman.
The show was again put into life in 1973-74 with total new casts, Monte Markham played as Mason, but it did not catch the market and was totally failed after running just around 15 episodes. After that using the original cast the series was started again in 1985 and ran successfully till 1993 until Raymond burr's death.
The name Perry Mason was borrowed from the company name Perry Mason Company which was publisher of a magazine named as Youth's companion, the creator of Perry Mason series, Erle Stanley Gardner was a big fan of this magazine from his childhood, who named his series as Perry Mason.
Although the basic plot of every episode remains the same, care was taken to have probable list of suspects in every episode, which was put up very well by the executive producer Gail Patrick Jackson. First half of the episode revolves around the murder and its suspect, with all clues pointing towards the client of Mason, while in second half Mason fights to prove innocence of his client using some legal tactics and drama. In most of the cases either Paul or Della brings in some surprising witnesses and all of them as a team put the case to justice with the real culprit exposed. One of the surprising thing is the real criminal is every time present in the courtroom itself and is mostly not considered as the suspect.
