Perry Mason TV's collection is of around 146 episodes. It was the longest running lawyer series ever featured in the history of American Television. Perry Mason was inspired from a novel by Erle Stanley Gardner, which depicts a fictional attorney. In childhood Gardner was fond of magazine named as 'Youth Magazine' whose publisher were Perry Mason Company, Gardner borrowed name for his lead character from here.
The first briefing about Perry Mason was in novel 'The Case of Velvet Claws'. Later on in 1944, CBS radio started broadcasting Perry Mason series. But with the advent of television series the demand for radio shows declined to such an extent that even name of the radio show was changed from Perry Mason to 'The Edge of Night' in order to avoid any competition from the TV collection.
The lead character of Perry Mason was played by Raymond Burr, as a defense attorney. He is accompanied by his secretary Della Street and a private detective whose roles were respectively played by Barbara Hale and William Hopper. In the role of Los Angeles district attorney was William Tallman who played character of Hamilton Burger.
The premiere of the TV show was on 21st of September 1957. It continued for successive nine years and concluded with its last episode on 4th of September 1966. All the episodes featured in that duration were black and white, with only one episode in color. This series is also available in DVD collection.
Some of the channels still feature this series. To list a few is Retro Television Network (RTN) telecasts Perry Mason Series, but it is not available everywhere. Another one is CBS video; it only has first two seasons available on it. It is even available on some local stations but that depends in which area the subscriber stays.
Perry Mason series was not only broadcasted in America, but it was famous worldwide. Most of the fans of Raymond Burr are from Germany, for his character of Perry Mason. This series was quite popular in Germany. The only change needed to be implemented was that all the episodes along with there titles translated in German.
